Krech, O’Brien, Mueller & Associates, Inc. (KOMA) – an architecture, interior design and structural engineering firm – was preparing for a transition of management. Knowing that revamping their strategic plan would help smooth the transition, Neuger identified the company’s overall goals and values to help determine the best path forward.
The Situation
Krech, O’Brien, Mueller & Associates, Inc. (KOMA) approached Neuger seeking help with developing their strategic plan. A well-established architecture, interior design and structural engineering firm, KOMA was preparing for a transition of management, and knew that revamping their strategic plan would help smooth the transition.
The Communications Challenge
One challenge was introducing and creating new relationships between the younger clients and the partners who plan on retiring within the next couple years. Another challenging aspect was identifying aggressive yet realistic goals for the coming years.
Strategy
Before beginning, Neuger developed an outline for KOMA’s strategic plan that contained four questions: Who are we? What will we become? How will we get there? What will we do? The questions not only clarified these items for KOMA, but also allowed Neuger to gain insight into KOMA’s foundation, values and overall company goals. Face-to-face meetings were also facilitated to help with the transition of management.
Results
KOMA was able to break down their target demographics and develop a detailed and measurable strategic plan that carefully displays their financial goals for the coming three years. They also formed a company communications schedule that plans out how they will accomplish their transition. KOMA has identified three focus areas and is actively looking to take on many more projects.
