Normandale Community College Foundation Magazine Redesign and Content Strategy

The design of Normandale Community College Foundation’s Creating Futures publication was stuck in the past. The magazine had also become bloated with content. The Neuger team helped to modernize the publication to better align with the college’s strong brand and developed a more streamlined, mission-driven content strategy.

The Situation

The Normandale Community College Foundation wanted to refresh the look of their publication, Creating Futures. They hoped for a design that had a consistent and clean feel, yet included contemporary elements.

The Communications Challenge

Although Normandale Community College had strong brand recognition in the marketplace, some of their communications, including Creating Futures, did not visually reflect this strength. Over the years, the publication’s content had become cluttered, lost visual appeal and lacked focus.

The Strategy

The Neuger team wanted to give the cover a fresh look and bring a consistent, clean design to the interior pages. A lot of attention was given to white space, allowing for “breathing room” and easier readability. The color palette and typography were also streamlined to add more cohesiveness overall. Leading the content strategy, we worked with the Normandale Foundation team to identify a pagination plan that would streamline the overall page count, while showcasing the most impactful stories and pieces of content to drive readers to action.

The Results

The updated design features a modern, angular cover page with a sophisticated “cleanness” to the interior spreads. Filled with rich content, the publication focuses on telling inspirational stories of students, faculty and donors, with strong calls to action. In the end, the Normandale Foundation was delighted to have a unique design with a style and content strategy that aligned with their brand. The publication was distributed to 3,000+ college supporters.
