The Situation

The Amherst H. Wilder Foundation (Wilder) is a nonprofit that helps children, families and older adults in the greater Saint Paul, Minn., and East Metro area through direct service programs, research, leadership development and community building. Wilder came to Neuger Communications Group for the design and writing of its annual report.

The Communications Challenge

The content and design of Wilder’s annual report needed to convey the complete breadth of the organization’s impressive work, share strategic objectives and direction, and tell stories of success, all the while inspiring action on the part of the reader to engage with the organization at a deeper level.

Strategy

Neuger Communications Group worked closely with the Wilder team to develop the content plan and design direction for the report. We conducted many interviews with Wilder staff, clients, board members and volunteers to be sure every angle of the organization’s story was told. We also developed special content types – such as infographics – to help readers further grasp the impact of the organization’s efforts.

Results

The final result was a breath of fresh air – a departure from previous years’ styles, but still well within the bounds of Wilder’s brand standards. It has been well received by all key audiences – staff, donors and partners – and earned the International Association of Business Communicator’s Golden Quill merit award for writing.
