Joanne Henry joined Neuger Communications Group in early 2014 after managing her own marketing communications and research firm for 12 years. She is engaged in strategic communications counsel for clients and provides leadership in media relations, advocacy, crisis communications and reputation management. Joanne is also known for her work in advocacy and public affairs programs – as well as for her contagious energy and sense of fun.

Joanne’s work spans a wide range of clients, from up-and-coming entrepreneurs to innovative nonprofit leaders to Fortune 500 firms. Her experience includes dozens of successful media relations programs and national product launches, as well as brand communications work in a variety of industries. As the field of media relations has changed, Joanne has been a leader in moving clients toward social engagement and content strategies.

Joanne‘s work in the crisis arena includes communications for national and international food recalls and strategic guidance for multiple organizations to prevent and manage crisis events. Joanne also speaks and provides one-on-one or workshop training on media relations, crisis communications and social media networking.

Joanne is a founder of PR for Good and the Common Good Breakfast series and is active in the nonprofit sector, where she works to strengthen public and private partnerships. Her musical interests impel her service on the boards of the Mill City Summer Opera and the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphony. When she joined forces with Neuger Communications Group, we became a two-bassoonist agency, and we look forward to Wendy and Joanne delighting us with duets at lunchtime soon.

Joanne lives with her husband, John, and their school-aged daughter in Edina, Minnesota; she and John also have two adult children.

Joanne works primarily in Neuger Communications Group’s Minneapolis office.

In my spare time I like to: Follow my daughter in the marching band like a bandie groupie.

I’ve been working at Neuger Communications Group since: I started at Neuger Communications Group in February 2014, but I started my public relations career with Dave Neuger and his dad, who headed Edwin Neuger & Associates.

Favorite project I’ve ever worked on: My most interesting project was working with a law firm to document intergenerational harm through personal interviews of Native American women living near the Hanaford nuclear test site in Washington.

Integrity

My business and personal life are more intertwined than ever, and that’s a good thing. Knowing that my team members are also committed to values of community, respect, fairness and honesty is of great importance to me.

Excellence

Early in my career I took a graduate level accounting class and told my boss that I just needed to pass; I wasn’t going for my usual goal of an “A” grade. “That’s a slippery slope,” my boss warned me.  He was right; you can never let your standards slip. Aim for excellence every time.

Success 

Success really is in the eye of the beholder, and for me, in the eye of my clients and co-workers! Did we achieve or exceed our stated goals – did we make a difference? One way I measure success is by the value I add to an organization.
